I spent all day today finishing up my portfolio and final paper. We all had dinner with Teri and Gordon to celebrate Larry’s 21st birthday and to say goodbye. Tomorrow everyone returns to the US except for myself. Tomorrow I welcome my girlfriend, Elizabeth, and her sister, Cassie, to South Africa.

Today I worked on my portfolio and then headed down to the Waterfront to get a few pictures developed. Afterwards, we all had dinner at the deli across the street from Hillcrest. It was an early evening for me.

Today I worked on my paper and then headed down to the Waterfront to do some shopping. We all went to Mamma Africa for dinner and drinks. Then we went clubbing on Long St. before calling it a night.

Day 30

Today we left Cape Point and headed back to Hillcrest in Cape Town. I hit up the internet cafe and had a late lunch. Then I returned to Hillcrest to begin work on my final paper. It was an early evening for myself.

Day 29

Today we had a morning session and then went for a short hike to check out some tidal pools. After the hike and lunch, we had our last two sessions of the trip. We had a traditional braai of lamb and bruderwurst for dinner. Then unwound on the beach with a bonfire. It was a long but fun night.

Today we had a morning session and then hiked to the Cape of Good Hope, the southwestern most point of Africa. After lunch we met for a lengthy afternoon session and some reflective writing. We were lucky enough to come across a troop of baboons. The entree on tonight’s menu was Moroccan chicken on the braai. I have yet to have a bad meal in this country.

Day 27

Karl and I woke up this morning, packed our things, and had a long conversation with Dada about his past and his involvement with the MK division of the ANC (the militant division of the African National Congress) during apartheid. We then met everyone at Nolitha’s, left Khayelitsha, and headed to Cape Point. After getting situated in our cottages, we met for a short session before starting on dinner. Teri made a wonderful Greek salad and Gordon cooked spaghetti bolognese on the braai. It was very relaxing after our two weeks in Khayelitsha.

Day 26

Today Kaitlin and I went to our kresh to deliver our gifts. Then we all went to Larry and Molly’s kresh to paint the outside and inside. Afterwards, a few of us went to the Promenade to print out some pictures. We returned to our homes in Harare (the part of Khayelitsha we live in) to spend our last night with our families. I cooked penne bolognese with bruderwurst for dinner. It came out quite well and Mamma and Dada seemed to like it. After dinner, we watched our final episode of “Generations”.

Today a few of us had breakfast at Mr. Pickwicks and then headed down to the Waterfront to do some shopping for our kreshes. We then headed back to Khayelitsha. We all got together with our host families at Nolitha’s for a braai. We were even treated to homemade corn beer. I felt like I had become part of the community. It was a great night.

Today we went wine tasting at five vineyards just outside of Cape Town. The wine was amazing, as was the cheese that accompanied it. One of the vineyards was also a cheetah and bird preserve. After the wine tour, we had a braai at the hostel’s rooftop bar. It was a long but, extremely fun day.
